Turn an AA Battery into a C Battery!

This easy trick will turn an AA battery into a C Battery for FREE!

While "AA" and "C" batteries have the same 1.5 volts, Alkaline "AA batteries have a rating of 1700-3000mAh while Zinc Chloride "C" batteries have a rating of around 3800mAh.

I do this all the time to make AA's from AAA's. You can buy inexpensive plastic holders online to convert from different battery sizes.

This is a really great idea!
The only potential downside is that AA batteries provide less current than C batteries, so some electronics may not work as well; but there's no safety issue, since it's less current, so you wouldn't overpower or blow any circuits or anything.

Was about to mention the capacity difference between AAs and Cs but I see that was already covered.

Using undersize batteries and homebrew adapters should only be done in a pinch and not as a regular thing. Discharging undersized batters excessively makes them unhappy and an unhappy battery does bad things like leak or rupture.

And NEVER EVER use undersized lithium batteries. Lithium batteries like to vent hydrogen when they're upset.

the problem with the video is although the VOLTAGE is the same, the CURRENT of a C cell is much higher and some devices need a higher current, running them on a AA may expose it to brownout conditions in sensitive electronics

Alkaline 'C' ~ 8000 mAh
Alkaline 'AA' ~ 3000 mAh
That's why C better and bigger, than AA

Except the device that uses C batteries uses them for a reason, so said device will drain the batteries dead within a fraction of the original use time.

While these will fit in a C cell housing, remember, this should only be used in an emergency/short term situation, as a AA battery does not have the same charge capacity as a C.

Just remember that the "hacked" AA won't last as long as a C. The larger size of the C cell means more capacity since the voltage is the same. a typical AA cell batteries has about 2000 mAh whereas a typical C cell battery has 6000mAh.

also should note that if some one decided to try this with rechargeables, in a device with a high current draw (normally devices that need cs are high current) then you can damage the batteries.
