it’s astounding that they improvised this. it’s even more astounding that you can make sense of it, while also making it make sense to others.

It makes me want to practice and give up at the same time.

Great analysis! Also, the best editing out here in music theory land

Leon - you're doing the music community a great service. Truly phenomenal work. I love your approach to analysis which gives good depth and insights but doesn't get over encumbered with detail. The visual palate of white notes on a black b/g with analysis in bright colors is novel and refreshing, and what you do with the score - zooming in and out, jumping back and forth, highlighting and labeling key ideas as they occur - truly makes the music theory happening exciting and relevant. Keep this going, it's an excellent approach, and thank you for these great videos.

Aa soon as I realised this wasn't going to be about: 'Every Good Boy Deserves Football' I knew it was going to go above my head.

The fact that this guy is breaking every note down is super difficult but absolutely amazing! 💯👏

Just saw this now old video on Justin’s instagram. I’m completely blown away by this breakdown. How freaking long did it take you to transcribe this, analyze it, record and edit the video, add your voice to it, and make sure all that is done to this level of quality!? The heck!?
You’re a legend!!

Ok, I know how to transcribe and analyze music, but how did you manage to pull off such a beautiful and concise animation of the stuff and notation? I'm genuinely curious what kind of animation software/s you are using to achieve such a spectacular presentation! You are my favorite music-related YT channel, btw.

All right there's a new standard in score visualization now.

Great job as always Leon! It would be pretty fun to see an analysis like this of the 2020 NAMM improv between Jesus Molina and Justin Lee

god this is crazy. Its like jacob plays everything intuitively but also knows completely what is going on and makes it make complete harmonic sense at the same time

Awesome analysis, Leon!
WE think you shouldn't have to make excuses for your choice of accidentals or key signatures! Why not use microtonal tuning systems like we do? ;) Check out our latest Stevie Wonder cover of "Overjoyed" in 31-EDO on our channel! We'd love to see you try to transcribe the keyboard solo! Consider it a challenge!
