As a German friend of mine once said, "The only way to negotiate a traffic island in the UK, is to have been there before"

What many many many drivers forget is to put the left signal on after passing the one before or a little before yours, I drive a large vehicle so takes time to get out and wait for a couple cars turning before my exit, however many come round with the right indicator on yet turn off so I end up waiting for nothing, and this getting way more common along with folk waiting until they're about to turn or are turning before using the signal, thanx to all of them for wasting my life waiting for nothing.

I think it's important to reiterate that this only applies in very specific scenarios. Lanes 2 & 3 are clearly marked as straight ahead only, the first 2 exits are secondary exits as shown by their reduced size on the sign, there is only 1 major exit. Read all of this information and this rule applies but as a general rule a lane on the approach to a roundabout that is marked with a left turn arrow is for the first exit only. What you have in this example is the exception, not the rule.

I had a really good driving instructor who taught me this stuff and it sticks with me today, but i'm amazed how many other people seem to have no clue how to use a roundabout.

It makes sense actually as the middle lane had a straight arrow so you wouldn't be turning left. You would use the left lane anyway for the second exit which like you said was still a left turn.

Queuing traffic before roundabout hides the arrows, most roundabouts nowadays are a free for all poor lane control and no indicators.

This is why it’s important to practise driving in the area near the test centre.

The odds of me driving in UK is a bit less than you riding a horse through Texas.

Passed my test this morning, your videos have been such a huge help in my development.

They put 3 roundabouts back to back in Toled, Ohio and we had nonstop daily multiple wrecks for 3 yrs, then they took one out for a year and now they just completely closed it. Someone sold them a REAL bad idea and it's taken 6 yrs a hundreds of thousands in damages and hundreds of injuries before they admitted it.

Here's something you didn't know: I passed my practical first try with 4 minors the other day without taking one single lesson with an instructor. Most credits for this go to my dad, however, I must say that your videos (I watched over half of all the videos on your channel) helped me so much. By the time I had to do my exam I've watched so many mock tests that I already knew exactly what was going to happen and what I should do. So thanks for your videos bro, they're really useful.

Your videos are a God send! My instructor always says I keep improving and she asks if I've been extra driving but all I do is watch all your videos! Thank you so much ❤

On approach to roundabouts like that I usually instruct ‘left, second exit’
Then they stay in the left lane and signal after the first exit

In this example, the 12 O’Clock is also the “Road Ahead” (as denoted by the thicker marking on the sign). At some roundabouts the “Road Ahead” is Not at the 12 O’Clock but the 2 O’Clock or further. The markings on the road are often still ahead arrows, not right turn arrows.
Also, in the self navigating stage of the test, “Follow the road ahead until I or the roadsigns dictate otherwise” was an instruction given when you would experience a roundabout where the road ahead was Not straight ahead. Caught my oldest out in a lesson the day before her test in the town she took it, (not our local centre, she got a short notice cancellation), and she had exactly the same on her test, but had learnt from her mistake lol.

The poor state of the road markings do not help, now wonder strangers get confused at junctions.

This was the only type roundabout I've actually been in my lessons

Don’t know about anyone else but that’s what I was taught but lessons were 34 years ago so perhaps it’s changed

The thing is, I go on a roundabout similar to this everyday and people always use the middle lane to go left 2nd exit and always beep at me like im in the wrong :(
