I used your spatula trick on a magnet set up I did today. It worked great. Thanks - your Santa Barbara picture friend.

Sweet. Also, put a stack of magnets in an envelope, use to gather up metal filings. Then hold the envelope over the bin and take the magnets out of the envelope to dump the filings.

Don't know why the stud finder thing never occurred to me. Thanks for that. :D

You really hit the nails on their heads with this video! I was having fun watching and thinking how I would use many of your ideas until you showed the dust collection bag idea. Good grief! Why hadn't I thought of that one before!? Those bags are such a pain to dump/reinstall, but now it will be very easy! Thanks so much, K-M. I'm an old-time woodworker who is learning so much from you to improve what I do! Thank you, thank you, thank you!

I've been using old car speakers magnets around the shop for years.
I love the ones at the drill press best, always have my most used bits and the chuck handy.

Ordered 30! These will be great for holding material down at the laser cutter!

Great ideas— one more: I epoxied a magnet to the end of the shop vac house nozzle. Now when I am working an object in the vice, I have multiple positions to place the hose to collect most of the sawdust (metal filings, etc.) as they're produced. Magnets for the win!

Honestly, I think my favorite tip was using them as a stud finder! Never thought of that before. Definitely a game changer! Lol

The creator of the week should be the creator of the year. The steadiness of his hands and final product. 👌

I particularly enjoyed the stud finding trick. \m/

i love all those tips, , , my only tweak is that i attached the magnet to the outside of the shop vac attachment, the magnet is way strong enough to grab screws through the plastic and now the magnet is not in the way of blocking shavings and what not as i vacuum

Not shop related, but the tape measure thing made me think of it. I keep one of these magnets on the end of my can opener to pull lids up/out

Wow, great video. I have used a couple magnets as you have but this brought up a lot more uses I had not thought about.
Thank you.😀

Great video! Magnets are so useful in the shop. I know you know this but one thing to mention, is the difference in the force (pull) along the axis vs perpendicular to the axis of the magnet. That's why you can slide them off of the putty knife fairly easily vs trying to pull them off. Note how the holdfast almost slipped off the side mounted magnets. It would be better supprted if hung under the bench. I have a magnetic fence on my bandsaw that, in spite of some very powerful N52 magnets will slip if too much sideward force is applied.
The trick is how to decide how to use this difference in resistance to your advantage. ..which is what you have wonderfully done with your saw guides.

Great tips for sharing!!! I especially love the tips on using magnets to hold the dust collection bags and also putting one on the end of a tape measure to pick up things.
