A massive storm system sliced through the country this weekend, leveling homes, spurring crashes and killing at least 39 people in more than a half-dozen states.
The system spawned at least 81 tornadoes across eight states since Friday: Mississippi, Missouri, Alabama, Arkansas, Illinois, Indiana, Louisiana and Georgia. The violent weather laid waste to hundreds of buildings. Wildfires broke out, raging fiercely in Oklahoma and Texas. Dust storms wrought havoc, diminishing visibility and leading to deadly vehicle pileups. And through Sunday evening, the amount of destruction across the country was becoming clearer still.

Based on reporting by: Anumita Kaur, Mariana Alfaro, Matthew Cappucci, Ben Noll and Kelly Kasulis Cho.

If Only there was a properly operational department of the government where we pooled our tax dollars to help with disasters!

The crazy thing is even when fema was operating, the long term effects of natural disasters can be measured in health wealth effects that SHOW UP 20 YEARS LATER.

Man sure wish someone didn’t fire all those people responsible for tracking the weather in the US.

I remember reading about the dust bowl in school and thinking “wow, how did the government let that happen when they could have resolved it with education of the masses” now we are in a repeat of that but in a different way

Let's wait for the government to not send aid to these poor people

Please ignore the increased amount of tornados, hurricanes, floods, and fires. There is no reason, at all, for their increase. Nothing that could explain this.

I think if we give another tax break to corporations and billionaires this might solve these issues

I live in Illinois. For the first time ever, I not only heard the tornado warning alert on my phone, but honest to god tornado sirens, too. We hauled ass to our basement. Thankfully it didn’t hit us.

Poplar Bluff resident here: While the loss of life is tragic, nothing makes me more proud than this community putting aside our differences and helping each other. Random stangers doing whatever we can to assist in any way we can.

Some of those states wanted to help get rid of FEMA.

Seriously though--how did the FEMA/NWS/NOAA cuts affect people during and after these events? That needs to be explained and shown otherwise the general attitude is gonna treat this as business as usual.

my families homes are destroyed, I was stuck in a petsmart closing the store down afterhours. me and my coworker who is one of my closest friends heard the telltale train noise that means a tornado is nearby, the giant concrete building shook and a normally obnoxiously silent building was loud enough to pop my ears. it also happened only days after my car got hit by someone running a red and I was in the ER. two occurrences close to death, only days apart. really makes you appreciate what you still have

we were barely warned ahead of time, we had maybe two days to prepare and the only reason i knew we had a possibility of tornados is because my friend is an avid storm chaser.

There are now 3 confirmed EF-4 tornadoes, one of which was EF-5 strength but did not do enough property damage to count.

But at least Felon had a good time at his golf awards dinner, winning top award yet again. So glad he's here taking care of the important stuff.

meanwhile trump was partying and golfing, he is the most unqualified person to be president ever, I don’t know how it’s only march when it feels like it’s already been years and the worst part is that we still have so many years left dealing with this incompetence in office💀

*2 tornadoes in Arkansas and 1 in Mississippi have been rated EF4

The damage surveys are still ongoing but Tylertown, MS got hit by 2 tornadoes in the span of roughly 40 mins

"How are we supposed to afford transitioning to green energy?!"
How are we supposed to afford not to?

Relax, everyone. Fortunately, no BILLIONAIRES were hurt or suffered any significant loss in wealth.
