Kastro Thassos
Kastro is a small village in the interior of Thassos
It is believed to be the oldest village on the island
The name of the village comes from the ruins of an old castle that existed here to protect itself from pirate raids
It was built in 1414 It is located in the center of the island at an altitude of 500m and is not visible from the sea
The village was deserted for many years because its inhabitants went to work in the coastal villages
Today it lists 9 residents who repair their old houses and use them as holiday homes during the summer months.
