First Programming Language to Learn - Javascript

This topic is often opinionated. You may different thoughts about it, an that's alright.

But here's our take.

Which programming language should someone learn first, should they have zero knowledge in programming?

Ask any web developer, and you'll get answers ranging from PHP, C# ASP.NET, Java, etc. But ask them. Did you recommend the language because that was what you were taught or was it because of the language itself?

Chances are most developers adopted a programming language because it was the first programming language they learned.

Here's our suggestion. Learn JavaScript first. Sure, JavaScript has its cons and it may not be the best programming language in the world. But you can't look away from the fact that it is the most used web programming language in the world.

Learn how to use JavaScript as a tool to help you understand web development. Build some web applications with JavaScript, then eventually move into other programming languages.

The truth is all great programmers know at least 2-3 different languages. And with knowledge on a few programming languages under their arm, they can pick the most appropriate one for different projects.
