If you don’t want to use the 1x1s as boots what i do is use dual molded legs, if you don’t have those you can paint the legs like the dual molded legs.

Well the idea for the boots were good but you should just paint the lego soldier foot at the color has what you put at the bottom of his feet no offense just saying but good job that inspired me to paint my lego soldier vest thank you for the advice i will sub!!!
