It begins with the Bronze Age and the Minoan and Mycenaean civilizations, going through the Greek Dark Ages, to Greece's Archaic Period, with the rise of Athens and Sparta and colonization of the Mediterranean. After the Greco-Persian Wars, we delve into the Classical Period and its culture. After the Peloponnesian Wars, we go into the Rise of Macedon and Alexander the Great's conquests, and finally ending with the Hellenistic Kingdoms.

The Ancient World Series Playlist:

Welcome to The Ancient World series! This series is meant to summarize broad topics in history and balances political history and events, with social/daily life, and culture. If you've watched our History of the World documentary, this series is a perfect next step. The videos are standalone, but presented in a chronological fashion. The series will be divided into 5 videos about the Ancient Period, which we call Phase 1. Upcoming videos in the current Phase will be placed at the end of these videos. Once these 5 videos are completed, we will move onto Phase 2, but this project will be considered completed, and compiled into ONE video containing all 5 parts.

THIS VIDEO IS FROM PHASE 1 OF OUR WORLD HISTORY SUMMARIZED SERIES

Why do people say "the macedonian AND greek army"?
They were all greek tribes.

Macedonians were Greeks as they participated in the Olympic games. Non Greeks athletes could not participate but Macedonians did. The evidence IS conclusive.

Thank you so much
Most videos on ancient greece don't include maps (Which is CRUCIAL/VITAL to understanding History)
Most history videos that do include maps.... simplify and exclude events and details
This is a GREAT and underrated video!

I was trying to dive into Thucydides' History of the Peloponnesian War, but realized I didn't have enough context loaded in my head on Ancient Greece to thoroughly understand it.

This is exactly the primer I was looking for. Thank you!!

My dad’s side of the family was traced all the way back to the early 1800s and they all lived in Central and Western Macedonia. Despite my deep Macedonian roots I was oblivious to much of its history. I’m glad to say that I’ve been learning so much more about Greek history✌️🇬🇷

A well-made video, congrats. Ancient Greece has so much to teach us. That's why we have devoted our channel to the retelling of Aesop's Fables. We believe that these timeless tales still have much to highlight about our common human condition.

A good synopsis, (and a timeline, ) of a complex and often confusing subject, nothing here that was particularly new to me but still a useful account and helpful in correcting errors of memory that had crept in, for example I'd have put Pisistratus before Solon.

An hour usefully spent.

And not to forget that the Cycladic civilization (3300-2000 BCE) which was contemporary to Minoan (3650-1300 BCE), had a influential role on the Minoan civilization in the period before 2100 BCE. In fact recent finds from the Island of Daskalio shows one of the most advanced centers of the Cycladic civilization from a period of 2600-3000 BCE that full with only monumental structures, and complex sewerage systems, which are even predating the Minoan civilization ones, both examples on of the top oldest examples on earth of sewerage. So, the Cycladic civilization pushes those dates back even further.
