Senior Advisor to the DNC Cedric Richmond joins Andrea Mitchell to discuss the ruling on a redrawn congressional map in New York that’s pitting powerful incumbents against each other. “What's really unfortunate about the New York congressional map is the fact that it was drafted by an unelected special master who is not accountable to the voters of New York. It’s undemocratic,” says Richmond. “You don't want to lose experience in the Congress, certainly.”

Apparently Mr. Richmond does not mind New York Democrats (who are accountable to the voters) ignoring the state Constitution and choosing to gerrymander anyway. Clearly, it was never about fairness. It was all about who was elected!

Why is it that US States, cities & towns are PLANNED on simple geographically oriented blocks yet when it comes to politics the simple block plan goes out the window and gerrymandered voting districts are the Rule?

Stop this gerrymandering on either side… go to one person one vote. It is the way it should have been… the electoral college is an outdated idea, and way to easily twisted to one’s own benefit…. One person, one vote.

I would not want "elected" officials determining the districts... that has been a flop for centuries. It was originally assumed that the people elected would have ethics and honour and do a good job, but the parties have hijacked it completely. Gerrymandering is crap and should be outlawed, period. The ability of a party to constantly endorse itself and systematically take over a state because of the minority is crap.
You either have an elected official( and some are ethical and honourable, but certainly not all), or you have an unelected official ( who may or may not be loyal to a party), then you send it to another unelected to determine if there was any gerrymandering, and penalties if the first ( or second group) did lean in favour of any group.
It is time we take back our countries from the radicals, and to do that we must have law and order. Right now the radicals are almost entirely on the republican side, because they are using them as a base through lies, and conspiracy theories ( not just the right, but the majority).
We need to restore democracy, and that starts with the basic stuff....like gerrymandering. There is no vote tampering, they don't need it...they already pick the vote by picking the voters. we need federal laws against it ( and yes they CAN do it...it's in the constitution, but will they, because it benefits both parties) and to restore political balance.

Just like with the Florida map, this map is unconstitutional and it dilutes, suppresses the vote of black Americans. That special master has absolutely no idea what he’s doing. He should be ashamed of himself for his role in destroying our democracy.

There's no fair way to draw congressional districts. If you elect people to do it, the majority party will have the advantage. If you appoint "bipartisan committees" they'll just trade gerrymander districts. (We'll let you gerrymander that one if you let us gerrymander this one). If you let the governor decide, they'll do it to benefit their party.
