Drew Marshall Show - How Jesus Became God

Professor Bart D. Ehrman joined The Drew Marshall Show with Professor Natalie Evans from University of Waterloo as a call in guest on May 17th, 2014. The broadcast was recorded from the studio of CJYE based in Oakville, Ontario Canada. Did Jesus really claim to be God? Drew Marshall begins the show by discussing Bart's spiritual journey initially and then focuses on his latest book "How Jesus Became God." How did this transformation of Jesus occur? How did he move from being a Jewish prophet to being God? The dramatic shifts throughout history reveal not only why Jesus' followers began to claim he was God, but also how they came to understand this claim in so many different ways.

Bart D. Ehrman is the James A. Gray Distinguished Professor at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He came to UNC in 1988, after four years of teaching at Rutgers University. At UNC he has served as both the Director of Graduate Studies and the Chair of the Department of Religious Studies. A graduate of Wheaton College (Illinois), Professor Ehrman received both his Masters of Divinity and Ph.D. from Princeton Theological Seminary, where his 1985 doctoral dissertation was awarded magna cum laude.

Mr. Bart ---- My personal experience, in my journey to Agnostic, is almost identical to your journey. College class by college class. My searching, studying, questioning, took from 19 years old to 55 years old before I threw up my hands and in frustration exclaimed, "I give up. I can't find God. Apparently, I am an Atheist !" After 10 years of thinking I was an Atheist, , , I moved over to the Agnostic. Today, I insist on No Proof, No Belief ! I think you for being on YouTube. It is nice to know that I am not alone.

I like Dr Ehrman's books. I'm still in the mythicist camp though. I just don't think there is any evidence that a historical Jesus even existed. And even if he did how could one prove He had supernatural powers, let alone be God incarnate?

The topic of suffering is such an interesting topic and I always love hearing from Christians about their views or the good ole' standby, "well it's just the will of God." I like bringing up the topic of baby's and children dying and of course, the "will of God" comment comes out, but I don't think they read their own Bible that they so strongly believe in. In reference to Jesus talking about children with his Apostles,

"Even so it is not the will of your Father who is in heaven, that one of these little ones should perish." - Matthew 18:14

He never got to the subject of the atheist critics who claim it is more likely than not that no single human specimen was the subject of the Christian scriptures. I would have preferred hearing more about that. But this interviewer did not seem educated enough about the whole subject to have had a meaningful conversation in that regard.

I do have a question for you that is somewhat related: Do you believe that the Hebrew patriarchs or Moses were actual historical humans?

Love ya Bart, but I don't agree with the thesis of this book at all. His earliest followers worshipped him as a God and his claims as son of man are prophetic from the book of Daniel.

The Son of Man was born from belief, when belief can apply itself upon all things, through time and space. If you believe in gold, you will apply gold, if you believe in diamonds you will apply diamonds etc....if you apply belief you will create and influence the physical as well. Yeshua was created from the belief in Yeshua simple as that. Why does everyone make it so complicated.

this is what has been revealed to me because I obey Yahshua ( now named Jesus)
I will share with you the why they can do whatever they, they meaning the illuminated ones, want to do to us. 2000 years ago there was a man named Jesus he was a living breathing flesh and blood human just like us, he was chosen to be a conduit of our heavenly Father in order to teach us something that the Elders, the priesthood of Pharisees who were supposed to be teaching us had stopped teaching. They were to teach us exactly what Moses had recorded for them in the book of the law which is in our bible and named the book of Deuteronomy and in Hebrew was Debarim meaning literally the WORD. Jesus said do not listen to their yraditions anymore nor should we act like them anymore because they were pretending to be holy but were evil inside, they had Moses which is the key to Heaven but they were over shadowing Moses with additions so hard and stacked so high no one could keep them and so everyone was falling away from our Father, they were lost! Jesus came to shepherd them back but they rejected him and through his murder broke all 10 commandments at once breaching their conyract with our Father as our chosen teachers, therefore sending out Jesus gospel which teaches that we need to become obedient and keep our Fathers true laws and instructions to be clean so the spirit can come to you, the new clean vessel, cleansed through loving obedience chosen not forced. W know our Father does not force us, Jesus taught that only those who know they are sick know to ask for forgiveness and will remain. Christainity through Pauls beast image teaches the opposite, it teaches you cant be obedient because our Father created you flawed therefore blaming our Father for our sinfulness instead of ourselves, how evil is that now that you hear it out loud? The beast made us blasphemers and disgusting in our Fathers eyes but you know what Jesus said? He said turn back, you didn't know, the evil ones hid it but jow I choose life and not this living death without our Fathers spirit! :-) It's not to late, you have right now today, pray begg bang on the doors of heaven for help!

With our Father there is no distinction of religion all of Abrahams Seeds must adhere to be restored, Judaism, muslim, catholics and christians must all come under the 10, not our religion it is our way of life!
