This tutorial goes over how to access alternative characters to fonts in Adobe Illustrator. There are several ways to do this now including simply highlighting the letters in question, using the glyphs panel, and also using the OpenType panel for OpenType fonts.

Thank you for your Video. Is there any solution/option/setting, which I can click/use so that the font ONLY provides the alternative characters. If I have a long text for example, I cannot sit and highlight each character right? It will take me forever (especially if the font has many alternative letters - a different "A" and a different "B" etc. ...) ...So I was wondering if there is a way, to be able ONLY to write in those alternatives letters.

So I start looking at another video about editing logos. I look up your video because it discusses open type - which I tried finding alternate letters for a font. I tried the "highlight with text tool" - doesn't work on AI 2021. I went to glyphs to look up the variations of letters. I get the entire catalog and there aren't alternate letter types to the font. I don't know if this is broken in the modern day version of AI, but now I'm frustrated because there's something I want to do in AI, that I can't.
