I found Gang of Youths during a very difficult time. Your music names all the sorrows I didn’t know I was carrying. And for the first time I thought that someone understood what I was going through. I really love this line: “You called each of my sorrows by name, and a tide of tender mercies shook my body from the grave.” That’s what I feel because of your music.

I think it’s almost impossible to expect anyone to understand you completely, even your dearest loved ones. Because sometimes there are feelings that you can’t even understand yourself, let alone articulate. Art exists to fill in that gap and help us understand them. So, thank you for inspiring people with your music. Now, I fear pain less and less every day, because it’s a part of being alive and human.
