Van Life - Choosing The Best Cargo Van to Convert

We also knew we wanted the most space possible since we're coming from the Escape 5th Wheel. That meant we were looking for a High Roof, Extended van. We weren't really looking for the 350 but we're glad we ended up with it.

We've always purchased used. We feel that this is the best way to keep the depreciation low. We were looking for a used van but this is the reality of our coronaverse. RV sales have doubled and tripled since this pandemic started. There will be very little international travel for the foreseeable future. This has caused a shortage in used cargo vans. We contacted a few dealerships letting them know what we were looking for. There was only one spot that had the van we wanted, but it was new. Since we hadn't seen an empty cargo van yet, we decided to check it out. After taking a look at the payments, warranty and finance rates, we jumped on this opportunity. We decided that she was the one we were going to bring home.

No van is perfect, there are pros and cons for each one. In this video we discuss some of the pros and cons of the Ford Transit Cargo Van for a Camper Van conversion. Let us know if we've left anything out!

At least they fixed the drive shaft separation problem from 2017 and earlier models. You guys should look out for water getting into the air filter compartment because of the inadequate draining channel under the hood.

You ever have issues with parking? I been to over half the national parks and aome places it was a tight fit with a car. Like parking garages big cities, street parking, etc.

Remember to keep it as light weight as possible.. it counts up. Looking forward to your built.
maybe a removable stove, so you can take it outside when good weather allows - etc.

This is a good video.

I was looking at a Nissan 3500 with the 4x4 conversion (the dealer does it so it is under warranty).

This was an interesting video. See you swap from trailer to van.

Great thank you for sharing how you made that decision. My only concern with Fords is the known engine issues, spark plugs popping out. But perhaps the new ones have that issue corrected. Having said that my ride is a 1994 Mazda B3000 (Ford Ranger) with over 550, 000, klicks on it. I’d buy another one.

Wow, things move fast with you guys. From casita to escape 5th wheel to van in a matter of few months. Looking forward to see your finished van build. I am sure it is going to be great. Is casita sold also?

I'm considering doing a conversion as well and was wondering what you think in regards to the ease of city parking with the extended transit vs with the long version? Not sure if a wet bath can be made to fit in the shorter version but if I can figure it out, I'm thinking I may appreciate the shorter length in the city. I'm curious to see if you had thought of that option

I’m sure you’ve been asked this a lot. But, why the switch from trailer to van?

There are too many YouTube channels for me to watch. I was watching you guys when you bought your trailer in New Hampshire.
I live in R I. and thought that was an interesting series of videos.
I am interested in buying a Ford Transit to build out.
Can you give a price range for the 250 and 350?

Dori & Mena, Comme toujours, c'est super de te paler. Your thoughts on the comparison of fiberglass travel trailers was very good, thank you. Considering, what we all have to put with these days is amazing! It makes you wonder! What, we all have to do, has to be taken in for decision making process. So like the "Ole Guy" says, "I do me, you do you." You are both bringing up good facts about Vans. May your future travels, be good ones.

I love your choice and I really love that you got the V6. The mileage difference is minimal but the power and years of service go way up. I insisted on that when we bought the wife her SUV, it had to be a V6 bigger engine, more power on the highway and a longer life I think. Ok guys how long are you giving yourselves for this build? Cheers!!!
