It is built in 1907 in the place where on the 1st of March, 1881, the Russian Emperor Alexander II was assassinated. So, the Church of the Savior on Spilled Blood is literally on a spilled blood of Alexander II.
The church was designed in Russian style by the architects Alfred Parland and Ipatiy Malyishev.
There is no any painted elements in the exterior of the Church but used bricks, marble, enamel and gold plated copper.
Inside of the Church of Christ the Savior on Spilled Blood there is mostly mosaics - 7,065 square meters of mosaics.
