I use a similar ruler, the Stripology and couldn't do without it! I am great at making mistakes, so I put small bits of colored peel-off tape under the lines that I'll be using. That way I don't have to count lines or inches. I just cut in the lines above the tape. Before I bought the peel-off tape, I used post-it note paper. I just cut the top corners off into triangular shapes & had them pointing up to the line above it. One more tip, if you cut the end of the strip into a point, it'll go into the tape maker easier.

does the cloth/tape always feed evenly (perfectly on center)? If not how is that adjustment made?

Why would I want to make straight grain strips? And why not show bias strips too?
