About JamesandKarla:

Hey everyone! We are husband-and-wife architectural/interior photographers based in NYC. We started our video channel to act an artistic intervention to help raise awareness of the importance of small independently-owned businesses and the unique character these shops add to the streets and neighborhoods of New York City.

In our videos we will showcase portraits of storefronts and shop owners in New York City & capture moments of city life that capture the spirit, energy and cultural diversity of individual neighborhoods. We also bring our dog, Hudson along whenever we can.

We made it our mission to thoroughly document unique 'mom-and-pop' stores when we began to notice the alarming rate at which they were disappearing. Our critically acclaimed books include “STORE FRONT: The Disappearing Face of New York”, “New York Nights”, “STORE FRONT II- A History Preserved” and “Broken Windows-Graffiti NYC”.

Come see the city & subscribe to our channel :)

Wah Fung Fast Food is the ultimate cheap eat in Chinatown. For just under $5 you can get a generous helping of roast pork, char siu, or roast chicken on top of a bed of rice and cabbage. There are lines out the door all day long but it moves fast and is totally worth the short wait.

Huge pork buns. Think I’ll go next week since it ‘s going to get cooler outside. Thanks for your video. Would love a close up look at Chinese herbals.

I love chinatown!! One of my favorite neighborhoods where I still get that old new york feel. Thank you! I love many of the places highlighted in this tour!

Wo Hop has been my go-to place in Chinatown since the late 70's! It's important for people unfamiliar with the area to know that there is an upstairs location above the downstairs one. Different kitchens! Go downstairs! The wait can be long, especially on weekends, though it's not unusual to have a line at midnight. The sesame noodles are great, best I've ever tried and the Americanized favorites are all there.
