When I was in our commander got a D.U.I. and was allowed to keep his command. A few enlisted people in the squadron did as well and they just didn't tell leadership about it and handled it on their own. They rolled the dice and were riding dirty on base. Most of them got away with it, and once the suspensions with the DMV were up they just went and got their drivers license re issued and kept going like nothing ever happened.

In the Navy I was stationed at Yokosuka, there was a digital sign that would broadcast DUI's "E-4 arrested for DUI yesterday - don't drive drunk" That lasted until one day the sign said "O-6 arrested for DUI yesterday - don't drive drunk" after that no DUIs were published

And of course its a freaking alcoholic SecForce. When I was in Active Duty, we had a Base 60 days without a DUI marathon, we would've got a day off if entire base lasted that, but it was a cop who got DUI on the last day.

At my first duty station, I normally road my bicycle. I could get to work faster on the bike, and ride it right to my aircraft on the flightline. While everybody else was walking in from the parking lot, I could ride right up to the office.

Back in the mid 2000’s some bases would display the last DUI and what squadron it was. Hell, one Wing CC used to make people stand with a sandwich board saying something along the lines of “I like drinking and driving”. Legal put a stop to that though.

Bruh I was broke as a joke and had to ride a bike EVERYWHERE and people always assumed I had a DUI.



Also at Stewart they made us pick up the DUI guys at the gate when they needed to come on post. One day I had to let some guy sit on my handlebars and ride to the Motorpool. One of the lowest parts of my military career LOL but funny.

I joined in 1980 and when they started cracking down on the drinking and driving the Vietnam guys used to say that you weren’t a real NCO if you didn’t have at least one DUI.

Total different era and service but back in the 70s a buddy got charged with a DUI in town and had his driving privileges revoked. He kept his car at the gate and had to walk or find a ride on base. The thing is his charges were dropped but the base privilege remained revoked.

I ride a bicycle or motorcycle to work at film studios sometimes. The fumbling for your ID at the gate is so real!
