In this video, we explore some of the most beautiful and historic destinations, driving the Romantic Road (Romantische Straße), starting from Würzburg and ending in Füssen. If you're planning a road trip in Germany, you won’t want to miss this!Our journey begins in the charming city of Würzburg, known for its stunning baroque architecture. Highlights include the Residenz Palace, a UNESCO World Heritage site, and the Marienberg Fortress with its panoramic views of the Main River.

As the sun sets, we drive to the medieval town of Rothenburg ob der Tauber, one of Germany’s most famous and well-preserved walled towns. The Romantic road is lovely, but also well known and can be stacked with tourists in high season. An alternative, not really a stretch of road but a community of cities with charm and a lot of half-timbered houses, is the Deutsche Fachwerkstrasse if you want ideas for other charming cities. Note that the possible queen of such cities, Goslar, is not even a member.

As I am recently retired and have the time, I hiked the Romantic road, or close to it at least - no need to hike the major highway. Took two weeks but a great experience!
