FF9 has one of the most bittersweet endings in video game history. Sure Zidane was reunited with Garnet and everyone else, but he couldn't save Kuja or say goodbye to Vivi...

This ending is the definition of perfection. I have never ever been impressed that much by an ending. Sure, the final boss in particular was really weird and random, though the scenes that followed are a mix of bittersweet, yet satisfying moments. Kuja unfortunately dies at the end, but you see that Cid and his wife adopted Eiko, Freya and Fratley live together, Quina works as a cook in Alexandria and can taste his beloved food, Amarant seems like he's satisfied, Steiner and Beatrix can be together, Garnet and Zidane share a beautiful scene, and the game shows you Vivi's children! How beautiful!!

But. The words that had been said on the screen, they, they are breathtaking. After a few minutes, you realize that it's Vivi who's speaking. And you read, read and read. He's grateful about everything, but as he proceeds, you realize that he's.. gone. He thanks everyone, wishes everyone a happy life, says farewell, and hopes that his memories will be part of the sky.

I cannot explain how heartbreaking this ending is, yet it makes you happy. Never have I ever been that satisfied about an ending among the Final Fantasy franchise.

Thank you, Hironobu Sakaguchi for creating the most beautiful game I've ever played. Thank you, Nobuo Uematsu for composing the most wonderful soundtrack, that has ever been composed for a video game. Thank you, Square Soft for giving us such a heartwarming time while playing this game.

Playing this game in 2019 thanks to the Switch release. Finished it last night and cannot stop thinking about how perfectly executed this ending sequence is. It has everything you could possibly ever ask for from an ending, regardless of medium. The way Zidane gives Dagger a smirk and small shrug when they first embrace, and the way she hits him on the chest while hugging him, they're unforgettable. It just says SO much about both of them, and the game as a whole. It's seriously incredible, and they don't even need to speak or anything for it. I'm just so wowed that this exists.

God damn... One of the best endings in any Final Fantasy game, and one of the most underrated ones. The emotion in the end scene when Garnet runes to Zidane is high. Garnet is so happy she can't contain herself and ends up crying her eyes out. So fucking moving.

This is the first next gen FF game I've finished and no wonder Sakaguchi said that this was his proudest achievement in his career. I understand now. FF7 was a true pioneer with the next level design but this one has something... it has charm. Charm its way into your heart. You can't say that about 7 or 8.

I remember when VII came out and changed everything. My brothers and jumped right into VIII. For some odd reason, sometimes we skipped a certain game or an entire console, without even saying anything to each other. We skipped FF IX. One day, many years later, with a lot more maturity, I decided to sit down and experience this chapter for whatever it is. While VII is nostalgia overload and VIII felt exhausting, all I can say is I am so glad I missed this game when I was young. I played it through for the first time as an adult, appreciating every single bit of it. It was so much that I doubt that I can play it again. I want to keep the memories of my only play-through, especially laughing with Quina, rooting for Eiko, and remembering that nervous and fun feeling every time the Ragtime Mouse had a pop quiz. I got every question right. I am without nostalgia when I say: if you ask me, this is the greatest and most tear-jerking endings ever produced by a video game, and my top pick for overall best title in the series. This was the end of an RPG age.

Final Fantasy VI and IX are still the greatest FF ever

I am happy about the Final Fantasy VII remake but if they ever did a Final Fantasy IX remake, I would probably cry tears of joy. FF9 is one of my favorite final fantasy games and one of my favorite games ever as it takes me back to when I was happy living at home with my family and a pet cat who I really loved. I won't get all sentimental here but I love this game and always will.
