Andreas Thom: Graph limits and applications to group theory III. Distinction of certain metric ultraproducts of simple groups [Thom--Wilson]. In this lecture series we discuss two famous conjectures about infinite groups and show that they can be resolved for groups which are sofic, i.e., satisfy a certain combinatorial approximation property that we describe. We discuss possible approaches to a quest for non-sofic groups and provide examples of robust properties of finite simple metric groups.
