Steam Deck Quickie: Shortix - Change Mysterious Proton Folders into Easy Symlinks!

Note: You must have Proton Tricks installed for this script to work.

This quick and easy script will auto-generate clean, easy to use symlinks to your proton folders as revealed by Proton Tricks. It will keep them up to date ever 15 minutes and even remove ones that are no longer in use.

A useful tool for a frustrating task. Note: this won't clean them up for you, but will help you figure out what you need to clean up. See my video:

Impressive stuff!! I used to add an empty notepad file inside the prefix and rename it to the game name so I can make sense of all the Steam generated ID's now this looks way better and easier to fix this issue. Awesome informative video!

Hi are u on discord now, when I right click to save link of the installer to desktop (and remove the word .download because I'm using firefox) it add a plain text document file in desktop, not an exe shortix. And I open that file in desktop and it open some dolphin folder with blue word "not found". I can't install shortix

That's weird that you didn't have a Shortix folder after installation. I contributed to the project so am familiar with scripts and literally first thing installer does is creating that folder and copying the script over..really curious. Also, it was really surprising when this showed in my subscriptions feed :)
BTW, the reasoning behind having a background service or not is that you can manually run (which you showed in the video) but also to be able to add it to Bash Shortcuts Decky Loader plugin. That way it could be triggered from game mode as well...

After installing and updating Shortfix, I just have an empty folder and a couple of scripts or something inside my „Shortfix“ folder.

No games, nothing.
What did I do wrong? I followed every of your steps.
