The Soviet Union asked Britain and America to open a second front in 1941 but was refused. And only in 1944 they opened a second front, when it was already clear that the USSR was defeating Germany...

I always get chills once the operation Barbarossa part commences, the sirens going off, and the immense chaos you can imagine was going on during those early months of the German- Soviet war. So many lives lost and monstrous army sizes and battles. Many Americans truly don’t know how the Soviet Union was fighting Germany in Europe alone for 3 years, breaking its back.

It's incredible that a city called Leningrad held out longer than France, Denmark, Norway and Yugoslavia, Soviet Union were the real heroes of WW2

So refreshing to see a young person who actually knows what Corsica is and can find it on a map.

если бы СССР не устоял, и не победил, то вряд ли бы английский язык был международным. подумайте об этом. спасибо всему СССР, что остановили это безумие и Гитлера!

Don’t forget that if in Western Europe the fascists treated people more humanely, then in eastern Europe, including the USSR, the fascists treated people more inhumanely, no better than Jews. They didn’t even spare infants. Therefore, for Eastern Europe it is more painful. If you read the documentation of those times or the memories of eyewitnesses, your hair will simply stand on end from those horrors.🤔

мой дед прошел войну от Москвы до Берлина, мне очень стыдно, когда американцы ничего не знают о второй мировой войне.

00:05 Animation shows that the USSR occupies the regions of Poland up to the Curzon Line, the western regions of the former Russian Empire, which have been under Polish occupation since 1921. It should be noted in this regard that this happened the day after the flight of the Polish government from the country and the order of the Polish General Staff not to provide armed resistance to the Red Army. It should also be noted that by these actions the Red Army saved 300, 000 Polish Jews from the genocide of the German occupiers.

Mostly of Soviet loses are simple people, not soldiers. 19 million poor people.

Marshal Zhukov said once: "We liberated Europe from nazism, they will never forgive us for this." His words was true. We see it now.

So much death and sacrifice and here I am aged 27 with some chocolate watching YouTube while the world is commencing high-profile wars once again. God forgive us... (my great-grandfather fought in Italy at Monte Casino in the 2nd Bedfordshire and Hertfordshire regiment and was later wounded in later actions by two German rounds to the right arm)

the Greeks lost two PM's in a very short space of time, Ionas Metaxas who although originally elected was pretty much a dictator himself at that point and also fairly right wing but not simpathetic to the fascists, died of throat cancer shortly after refusing to surrender to the Italian Axis forces. Then his successor Alexandros Koryzis who "took over "as prime minister but had little of Metaxas' power as the country had been handed back to the monarchy and George II was largely controlling the Govt. Sadly Koryzis bore a lot of the responsibility for the German Invasion as he accepted British assistance whereas his predessesor had refused it on the grounds that it would indeed provoke the Germans to invade. Greek resistance lasted less than 2 weeks and Koryzis shot himself on the 18th of April after less than 4 months in the job. It seems ridiculous in a world now when we routinely expect politicians and company executives to routinely attempt to wriggle out of any responsibility for the consequences of their poor decisions or dishonesty, that a politician should show the ultimate remorse for a set of circumstances he largely inherited and had little power to change. Different times indeed.

Russia n China did the most work during WW2. Russians to the Germans and China with Japan. Between them like 45+ million lost. Yet neither were invited to the WW2 reunion thing like two years back. lol

Greece fought valiantly and delivered the Axis Forces their 1st major defeat with outdated equipment. Even pushed back the Italian demoralized army almost out of Albania on the long counterattack. As a result of the long counter-offensive the Greek army was in desperate need of ammunition, soldiers starved to death or died in the cold Pindos mountains. In 1941 Ioannis Metaxas died a mysterious death. Right before the Germans joined the Italians and Greece was encircled. Greeks with the help of the Allied Forces (British, Australians, New Zealanders) continued to fight till the very end and suffered the heaviest losses for that decision after the land was overtaken. The cause of death of Metaxas varies some say illness of sorts, other sources claim assasination by secret service, and last one is suicide. To this day it still remains a mystery. Greeks still celebrate "OXI" day, Metaxas response to the Italian ultimatum, which means "NO". There are alot of documentaries on the subject.
