Regarding 12:26 in selecting a digital scale to weigh a coin, use a scale that can weigh to two decimal places for greater accuracy. This is because one troy ounce = 31.10 grams.

Good to see you covering this topic Sal. I covered the ice melt test in a video and it was inconclusive, which surprised me.
I can't believe that I've now been making the silver testing slides for over 8 years. I have a huge range of woods currently available, from mahogany & walnut to oak & ash. Anyone wishing to purchase one can either contact me direct or they can also be purchased on ebay US, ebay UK and also on The Silver Forum.

I always remembered watching movies that take place in the “older days” or cowboy movies and watching people bite their coins when they were receiving them. It’s kind of gross but I wondered if they were looking for a taste or trying to scratch it up a little bit. Maybe you can show us that test next time. Thanks for the video Sal!

I only buy coins and rounds because I can ping test them. 100% of my purchases get checked with a magnet, measured with calipers, weighed, and pinged.

Great video Sal. I have the pocket pinger, I have the CCT Silver slide and I have a Sigma.
I was unaware that the Sigma had to be calibrated. I’ll have to look into the “how” and “how often”.
Thank you again. 👍

My favorite way to test is the pocket painter.

Sigma pro much better as it measures entirely through coins density whereas some plated tungsten coins can be missed by the Sigma machine used here😊

As a new person collecting silver, , I had not idea there were so many ways to check and see if your coins are the real deal! Thanks Sal

Call out these coins stores and don’t be afraid to tell them to test the coins before you buy with all the devices to prove they’re legit. If they don’t have at least three methods and machine of the gold tester gun. Don’t buy from them. If they get offended then walk away and go elsewhere. These store have to make their rent and their using tactics to scam you in exchange for their higher yields.

Great video. Now I would like to see something like this for generic rounds.

Another test you can do in additon to those is to measure using a pair of calipers. Fakes don't usually measure the same as real do to them trying to get the weight correct which means the diameter can be wrong

This is an awesome video, Sal. I did not know there were so many tests to check whether your silver is fake or genuine. I have heard of a few of them - i.e the specific gravity test, the ping test, the magnetic sliding test, visually examing your silver for finer details. I haven't heard of the bleach test or used silver testing machines. I have seen the acid test but I dont think I would use it.

10:51 that is quite interesting. Will this create a milk spot, or could it remove it?
