You Are A Burden

Yes, you are a burden. We are all burdens, including Fr. Mike, but we are burdens worth carrying. Many of us choose to deal with our problems on our own because we don’t want to bring our mess into other people’s lives. But the very nature of love is to sacrifice for others, and we cannot have any meaningful relationships in our lives if we do not share our burdens and bear some of the weight of other people’s burdens.

“Bear one another’s burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ.”—Galatians 6:2

I have been struggling with this a lot lately. I have been afraid to go talk to someone about my problems and burdens because I don't want to burden the people I care about. the timing of this video couldnt be more perfect. A family friend very unexpectedly died today. For the past 10+ years he did all of the care for his wife with alzhiemers. he spent hours everyday helping her with simple tasks like bathing, dressing and eating. he just couldnt bring himself to put her in a nursing home. his sacrificial love touched the lives of many. he carried his wife so well. and now, he is being carried by the Father.

This video make so much sense to me. I constantly feel like a burden to my family and boyfriend because of my depression and anxiety. Sometimes I feel like I drain them, and think they would be better off without me. It feels nice to realise that all of us are burdens, and that they are my burdens too. Now I know that my problem is not about whether I'm or I'm not a burden, but if I'm worth carrying...I really think I'm not worth it. But it seems like they do so... Maybe I should take their words (and actions) for it.
