22 June 2022 Coin Battery Laws In Australia & Car Keys Remotes

From 22 June 2022, the Consumer Laws are changing for the sale of consumer goods that contain coin batteries in Australia. What does this mean for Locksmiths who sell car keys and garage remotes that contain coin batteries? The Accc has released a PDF to help explain all the new changes, but it does not clearly do that for most of us. Hopefully, some comments below will help us all understand what we need to do to comply with the new regulations a little more clearly when it comes to car keys and garage remotes that we produce and sell.

I received a supply of KD remotes from SG yesterday. In the parcel was several sealable bags with warning label and explanation cards enclosed for each of the remotes supplied. It appears that any remote you sell will have to be in the bag with the warning card and label instead of handing it over on a key ring.

Why do I now need to tell a customer the remote I'm giving them contains a watch battery, how stupid do I now look & I'm sure they will never call me again, it's offensive to the customer because I'm telling them I think they are stupid & if some warned me I'd say " What do you think I'm stupid & don't know that"? How do I hand over a remote car key with a warning label attached? Really makes me mad society has come to this.

Interesting... I was wondering why one of the retail auto parts suppliers ran out all of their button cells on clearance in the last couple of weeks, and my local big chain supermarket also has none on the shelf.

first question i have is if we buy products that do not have batteries supplied in them when sent or received what part does this cover 2nd is if we supply & fit only as a retailer where do we stand
