Ancient Americas: A Complete Overview

preview_player
Показать описание
This video goes through the entirety of the Pre-Columbian Era.

It begins with the settling of the Americas, and the Paleo-Indian and Archaic phases. Focus is on the main civilizations of Mesoamerica and the Andean region, like the Olmecs, Mayans, Aztecs, and Inca, but also goes over the smaller cultures in North America and the Caribbean, like the Hopewell, Ancestral Pueblo, and Taino. Though much is in the Ancient period, the video goes up to the 15th or 16th centuries, so will be part of the Medieval series.

The Medieval World Series:

Welcome to The Medieval World series! This series is meant to summarize broad topics in history and balances political history and events, with social/daily life, and culture. If you've watched our History of the World documentary, this series is a perfect next step. The videos are standalone, but presented in a chronological fashion. The series will be divided into 8 videos about the Medieval Period, which we call Phase 2. Once these 8 videos are completed, we will move onto Phase 3, but this project will be considered completed, and compiled into ONE MEGA-DOCUMENTARY containing all 8 parts.

Check out the Sections on our Homepage for the 4 series we are working on:

Earth basically has two completely separate histories that rarely interacted until recently, and the fact that the history of the Americas gets so little love is criminal

1 big misconception is that the native americans didn't have the wheel, they in fact did invent the wheel but it was mainly used for toys, the issue was they lacked suitable terrain and large animals that could be domesticated. The exception being the Llama but their society made more use of human labor

15:39 - The astrological calendar of the Mayans primary purpose was agricultural. Knowing when the seasons would change was absolutely vital to all of the early civilizations and they put tremendous resources into knowing the seasons accurately. Some used massive rock architecture such as Stone Henge..

It’s a shame the Old World couldn’t just treat the New World as a country (or countries) worth communicating and trading with. Imagine the rich cultures that could’ve been preserved and explored rather than destroyed and conquered.

No, Columbus NEVER stopped thinking he'd found islands of India, to the day of his death.

I'm from Brazil. People here who doesn't get in touch with our indigenous peoples doesn't know very much and because of our education system.

I got in contact with some, but I was young and didn't know about how the Brazilian elite treated the natives even after so many years after the independence.

I think that in different parts of the world they started building pyramids and aqueducts at the same time because they relied on astrology.
Many countries used it to start a new stage in the life of society or to bring innovation to the country

You missed or didn’t mention a lot of facts about the Aztec. And it seems they had a lot in common with the Inca.
The Aztec warriors were also poets. They a beverage of the gods called Pulque. They were the ones that discovered Cocoa, avocados, and they also used bow and arrows not just the spear launcher aka atlatl. Their obsidian weapons were sharper than the steel swords of the Spaniards. They also taught Nahuatl their language to conquered tribes or nations in Mexico. There were also the Purépecha in Mexico whom were another powerful nation or kingdom that rivaled the Aztec empire. The Chichimeca were also another large nomadic group in Mexico that were never conquered by the Aztec nor the Spanish. And you didn’t mention that the Aztec city of Tenochtitlán was the greatest and most impressive city that the Spanish have ever laid eyes on. To the Spanish it was a thing of fantasy or a dream state. That’s how impressed they were with what the Aztec has built.

Here, in Pennsylvania, we have "ice caves" still melting, left over from the last Pleistocene freeze.
Consider: if one takes an ice cold obsidian or silver mirror from such a cave, it would seem to smoke in the open air until it warmed.
Magic! I can well imagine that a priest would hold that smoking mirror close to his ear, nodding sagely, as the gods whisper from their world into ours.
Some choice coca plus a psychotropic mushroom ritual meal, pulque, maybe an imported peyote flower . . . and I'd be ready to believe the gods were speaking through it, too.

This is a bit outdated giant cities have been found with Lidar in the rainforest of Brazil that held population of 30, 000 they were complex grid pattern Vass and well organized 😊
Also, the people of Choco Canyon that built The summer solstice sundial complex that also incorporated moon cycles should have been more detailed the Hopie
Also the Illinois complex along the Mississippi was a vast nation. Louisiana has several sites linked to them, as well as the Ohio rive earthwork mounds There is evidence they were smelting copper in the Pearl River Louisiana region that came from the Great Lakes region
