How do you expect Hamas to agree to a temporary ceasefire, give up their leverage (the hostages), and then the bombardments resume after a few weeks? Who would accept such an agreement? What Hamas wants is a permanent ceasefire with a permanent IDF withdrawal. They are blaming Hamas but conveniently avoiding explaining why Hamas is not accepting the deal.

I think it was quite clear from this that Israel needs to be stopped. The UK arms sales rules need to change. Cameron needs to choose, lose one countries arms sales or have the rules tightened and risk all future sales. You’re call Dave.

In 1990, as the Soviet Union was dissolving, Western leaders aimed to reunite Germany under NATO, requiring the USSR to withdraw its ~400, 000 troops from East Germany.

Western officials assured Moscow that NATO wouldn't expand eastward, including not just East Germany but also Eastern Europe, based on National Security Archive analysis at George Washington University.

Despite these assurances, NATO began expanding toward Russia in the following years, which was not formally agreed upon but documented in memos at high governmental levels.

Joshua R. Shifrinson's research in International Security suggested the U.S. misled the Soviet Union about NATO's expansion plans, confirmed by archival evidence contrasting public statements and private communications.

NATO's first significant eastward expansion occurred in 1999, admitting three Eastern European countries, including Poland, which Russia viewed warily due to historical hostilities.

In 2001, the U.S. exited the ABM Treaty, and in 2004, NATO added countries like Romania and Estonia, moving closer to Russia's border.

The 2008 NATO summit signaled intentions to include Ukraine and Georgia, which Russia saw as existential threats, leading to heightened tensions and the Russo-Georgian War.

By late 2013 and early 2014, the U.S.-backed anti-government protests in Ukraine escalated into a coup, leading to a pro-Western, anti-Russian government, viewed by Russia as a direct threat.
The U.S. had invested $5 billion in Ukraine's pro-democracy initiatives since 1991 and was involved in planning post-coup governance, as revealed in a leaked call involving U.S. officials.

Russia's annexation of Crimea in 2014 was a reactionary move to the coup in Ukraine, perceived as a strategy to prevent the loss of its Sevastopol naval base, highlighting the deep-seated mistrust and strategic confrontations between Russia and the West.

These politicians should go to the front lines in Ukraine rather than making statements for the press.

Is that the same Cameron who with Sarkozy went into Libya and caused the deaths of innocent people and then called it "friendly fire". Where was the indignation from him at that time? He's a hypocrite (and unelected).

Post-2014, the U.S. provided Ukraine over $4 billion in military aid to enhance NATO interoperability, intensifying Western provocations against Russia.

In 2016, the U.S. activated an ABM site in Romania using Mark-41 launchers capable of housing offensive missiles like Tomahawks, raising Russian security concerns.

A similar ABM site was being constructed in Poland, potentially allowing for 48 Tomahawk cruise missiles near Russia's border.

In 2017, the U.S. shifted its policy to sell lethal weapons to Ukraine, a move perceived as offensive by Russia.

The U.S. exited the 1987 intermediate-range nuclear weapons treaty in 2019, further straining relations.

NATO countries, along with the U.S., provided Ukraine with weapons, training, and participated in joint military exercises, notably the large-scale Sea Breeze naval exercise in 2021.

NATO's aggressive exercises near Russia included a 2020 live-fire training in Estonia, 70 miles from Russia, using missiles capable of striking Russian territory.

In 2021, NATO reaffirmed Ukraine's future membership, and the U.S.–Ukraine Strategic Defense Framework and Charter on Strategic Partnership were signed, enhancing military cooperation.

The culmination of these activities, including NATO's persistent military exercises near Russia and the reinforcement of Ukraine's military capabilities, was perceived by Russia as a direct security threat, influencing its actions in Ukraine.
