Day Before You Came. I didn't know that song existed. And how could I have known. In USSR we only knew a few things about ABBA and it was in bits and pieces. I happened to see a film about the tour of ABBA in Australia in a small military town where we, engineers, were retrained, trained and prepared for war with an invisible enemy and running around with unloaded guns. This film was not for wide distribution, it was shown in small towns. It was about the warm welcome ABBA received in Australia in 1977. It introduced me to an unknown world, where there was a group of young, beautiful girls and boys singing trendy disco songs. When youtube came out, I wanted to listen to all the popular ABBA songs and choose the best one. I listened to all the songs with pleasure: Dancing Queen, Fernando, The Winner take it all, Thank you for the music. Suddenly, by some miracle, a song popped into my head a few years before that day. Some time ago I was watching a video clip (The Gallery. Jos Stelling. 5 minutes clip) with a beautiful woman erotically undressing in a gallery. A wordless clip whose action was accompanied only by music. I was also surprised how well the music lied to the content of the clip, which ended with a sound of disappointment, disappointment in the man's eyes and in the music, and in my soul. The clip showed what power beautiful women have over men. Suddenly, while listening to ABBA's songs there was some kind of epiphany in my brain. I remembered this clip and the accompanying song. The song in that clip was "Day Before You Came". I listened to the song again. The more I listened to it, the more I discovered the depth of feeling that had gripped Agnetha, the lead singer of the band. She wasn't playing a role, she was singing about her life. I read the band's biography. Turns out this song was written just before the band broke up in 1982. A little bit of information from the band's biography for clarity and to complete the picture. In 1978, just before Christmas, Agnetha took all her two children and left the house where she was living with her husband, composer and guitar player of the band, Björn. At the end of 1979, they divorced. Agnetha took the divorce very hard. Frida and Benny, the band's composer and pianist, divorced in 1981. Everything was bursting at the seams. But the band promised the admirers to continue performing. During this period, Björn and Benny wrote the saddest, most lyrical songs. The Winner Take It All is Agneta's favourite song. Björn claims that everyone has really lost from their divorce, that there are no winners. Then came the songs Thank You For The Music, Day Before You Came. Fun, rousing songs like Dancing Queen didn't work out anymore. Agnetha and Frida were no longer smiling in public. And now, about the song Day Before You Came. What's it about? If you listen and watch the video carefully, the whole love story and the painful divorce come to the fore. It's a poignant love hymn, the singer's eyes and voice you start to believe unconditionally. So much irrevocable feeling comes through in her voice. The song of a woman who has lost her love. Everything fades. There is sadness, resentment, bitterness in her voice, and the feeling of losing something very dear. One look into her eyes full of sorrow and without any words one can understand what this song is about, what her feelings are reflected in them as in a mirror. Goddess! The song is accompanied by the sound of a synthesiser mimicking the rain on the roof. Frida, seated on a piano that drives onto the stage, laughs at the love that has passed, shattered into tiny pieces like a fragile vase that has fallen to the floor and cannot be glued down. This laughter makes you all the sadder. It's touching and brings tears to my eyes. This hit, I want to believe it's a hit, their swan song. Looked up the translation of the song. The song describes an ordinary working day, about a girl driving to work, a light lunch of Chinese spaghetti, a cigarette in the afternoon, relaxing on the sofa after work with a not-so-fun mood. But before a loved one arrives, the mood should be upbeat, not downbeat. The title of the song contradicts the mood. The title should be, in my opinion, 'The Day After You Leave'. The sound engineer told how the song was recorded. Each one of the group recorded his part separately. Agnetha, recorded her part several times, and each time she had tears flowing, the lights were turned off, and she sang and sang. Whoever dislikes this song, unfortunately underrated by the critics, is either a madman or a misanthropist. ABBA is a great band, they've been gone for 40 years, but people still love their songs and wish them a reunion. There was a time when the gods came down to earth and sang their songs to us. I am eternally glad that I lived in the time when these masterpieces were being made, and that I spent my youth listening to their enchanting sounds. It's a happiness that's always with me. I'm getting old with ABBA. The band broke up when they were young, Agnetha was 32, Benny, Frida, Björn were 37. In fact, it all ended in 1981. In 1982, only three songs were added. Nobody else in the band wanted to sing together anymore. They dragged themselves into the band like by a rope. The great love was over. That's it, guys, it's over. No more Frida's warm, soulful voice, no more Agnetha's crystal voice, no more ABBA. In 1982, Björn and Benny had children with other wives. The band couldn't help but break up because of the betrayal of the men. If it were announced now that ABBA was coming, would I go to the concert? The answer is yes, I would. Я тоже обожаю песни АББА!! В первой половине 80- х я ещё не знала эту группу. Жила в Оренбургской области в г. Орске, в кинотеатр привезли фильм, в котором рассказывалось про тур по Австралии.
Фильм яркий, музыкальный, мне очень понравился! С той поры я поклонница песен группы. Прошло столько лет, а песни АББА до сих пор волнуют, время над ними не властно, это шедевры, классика!
Посмотрела клип с раздеванием, про который Вы говорили, дней пять назад. И волна любви к этой песне охватила меня. Посмотрела уже 4- й клип на эту песню, слушаю и смотрю несколько раз в день. Невероятно красивая мелодия, голос, всё прекрасно в этой песне!
