Excellent thoughts as always, Scott. The A7CR is something I'm actually interested in. It looks like a great landscape photography tool.

6:33 Image edge only exports JPG, and you have to shoot RAW + JPG to be able to export full size JPG, if RAW it will down size it so much you can't crop in for Instagram, so if you have a 85mm lens like I do this is the case. I don't know if this is the case with Creators app that replaced this app, but it only works with Firmware 2.0. Imaging Edge only works with 1.11 and maybe below. Creators app lets you control the camera via the phone, so perfect for filming yourself. I've been told there's not another differences in the 2.0 firmware, it's just comparability with the new app. You need 1.05 Firmware or 1.11 before updating I think. Don't quote me on that, but the specifics are listed on the download page.

Maybe I am missing something. But I don't see a reason to get these vs a7 IV. The main reason they are smaller is due to the View finder 0:49.
But some are concerned about nose tolerance so they wanted view finder on the side. But I have an average sized nose, so not been an issue, the screen turns off when i cover come close to the view finder. So nose won't swipe the screen. But My noe touches the screen, but I don't have to have my nose all the way into the screen. So unless the nose is big, it won't be an issue.
But nice to have options.

Cogent distillation of pros/cons of these new Sony releases, Scott. Comparisons to other brands, a plus. What would be the MP of the A7CR in crop mode? (Am thinking of trade off using lighter APS-C lenses some of the time on this body.) BTW, cool shades in your thumbnail. GW wears the same specs on the dollar bill — what a coincidence!😊 Cheers!

If you have a camera bag, backpack, the size won't matter much if you have big enough bag, so the tiny bit smaller camera won't matter much. So In my opinion these cameras seem redundant. If you want really small, then go really small. But then there won't be any 4k60p or full frame sensor. But if that's not needed and you want the smallest possible camera, the smaller cameras like RX100 might be an option, or if want bigger A6000series. If you want 4k60 I would go A7 IV, especially used in great condition. But Sony seems to make too many models. The single SD card slot is a turn off. A6700 is thicker, heavier than the previous models like the A6600. So don't get that if you want small camera. if you consider that, you mgiht as well go for A7IV. Or wait for A7 V.
I fit it in my backpack, I put a back protector on top, and camera inside a bed sheet sock with downhill rated elbow pads. so camera is covered and safe.
But I am hoping for a Sony A7 V one day with same features, would not mind ai tracking, but the feature I want the most is tilt flip out screen.
