Today we take a look at a new substrate for Orchids from Colomi minerals, sent my my subscriber!

I am trying out the Colomi minerals as a top layer, but on a further investigation, these pebbles are more special than they appear! So a new video on them will probably come soon!

A little side note: the website theoretically has English on PC, but it doesn't work well, doesn't translate everything at the time I tried it.

Very interesting video as usual ! :) You shouldn't care about negative comments... just do your thing ! I am sure most of us enjoy very much your work and we join you every day to see new stuff ! We learn so much from you... Really, I believe you have the best informative video's about orchids care. I watch sometimes on other youtubers channels, but I have to say you are the most organised, the most informed, the most honest about your mistakes and with the best way of teaching and filming. I love it !

Yes please do make a video using the pebbles as the only medium.

From what I thought of the website is. It’s sorta like aquarium gravel for the smaller granular one. The later size is “supposed “ work for Vanda’s . Unfortunately they don’t ship to the United States.

Oh... yay!! Good you have some ... I wasn’t courageous enough to ask you if you knew colomi or would be interested in trying it out ... thought back in the day you were so so set on SH that I didn’t approach the subject... but yeah.... I love it 😊 it’s fun and works .... just that for this year I have not been fertilizing my orchids in colomi because it’s ‘fertilized’ ... but I’ll see it for real in year 2 😊 ... enjoy!

I love the look of the pebble substrate, how you can make patterns with different colours! So I'd love an experiment with a glass setup!

Hardness is not the same as TDS. Hardness is from calcium and magnesium ions. TDS is from all ions in the water. So, if the material exchanges calcium and magnesium ions with other ions, you would expect the TDS to remain the same, or be very similar. (Of course, even if it is "working" it's probably giving off sodium ions, which are not fertilizer. Hopefully they don't do anything!)

I'm pretty certain my local orchid nursery had Onc. Cheyenne. I think I've seen it both times I've been recently. I'll check next time I go and ask them. They also had one called Wild fire that looks really similar but I can't quite remember now.

Hi Danny, The no id orchid at 3:45 could possibly be Onc. warm memories. we have an orchid nursery here in South Africa that sells them under that name. Not sure if it's the same though....

I know your topic was based on the pepples. Look very nice & thank for your orchids for taking a risk for trying out that product. I would like some info. On seramis sticks do that really do work and worth the money

I'd love to see an experiment with a orchid. Problem is which one do you sacrifice...Yikes. But yes as you say, onward and upward and we all learn.

why don't you get a patreon account tho? it would make stuff really easy for people who want to support your work

I’ve used lava rock as a medium and in my experience even phalaenopsis struggle to push their roots into the media.

wont the black "rocks" absorb the light and wormth and worm up the pot for the cool growers in such a hot climate?

Hi Danny, could you do an expemirment with this in a s.w. pot? Do you think it would work in place of leca?
BTW I don't have a shelves, so I use a self standing hydro cultural light stand that's 4ft in length and has 2 lights mounted within it on 2 bookshelf stand's that have storage underneath. The light is made by iPower. I'm buying another for my bar so I can have up to another 20 orchids under it. Idk if this will help you in your
green house but you can look into it and see if it helps you. I got it from amazon. It cost me about $64 in US dollars, (IDK
what that converts to euors).
