A couple additional tips...
-If your pink material is from a Unity asset, make sure the asset is compatible with your rendering pipeline. Sometimes, assets will contain a .unitypackage you can double click to quickly install the appropriate shaders.

-If a custom shader doesn't work and you're using URP or HDRP you can use Unity's Shadergraph to recreate a shader using visual nodes

In new Unity-versions theres no converter in the edit Menu. You'll find it now under:
Window->Renderer->Render Pipline Converter

Or it means the material just cannot be found, this happened to me when switching pipelines and when transferring my unity projects to my new computer when the materials were saved to my computer in a folder that was not in the main Unity game folder. Or I think they turn light blue, idk

In Edit -> Rendering I don't have these options, only "Generate shader includes". 2021.3.5f1 in using. What I need to do?

Whats is weird for me is I am literally following a tutorial which has me making a new unity #D(URP) project and using exact same assets yet mine shows up pink :/

It looks fine for me in the editor, but when I build 2 of my scenes are completely pink

i have a question. How do i use shaders made for a shield? Like half life Shields have textures but i don't know how to Edit them like the game itself it just comes out as a pale normal texture and not a cool effect

It's not always that this happens for this reason. I would start with a material compatible with HDRP, which I am working with for the said project, but somewhere along the way I'll end up doing something that Unity doesn't like, and the object will render pink. The one instance I can particularly remember is trying to stack or layer two tri planar textures together and plug them in my shader. Not sure why it would error out on that

This is just making my project crash :') The thumbnail of the texture in the inspector now has color and isn't pink, but the thumbnail of the 3d object is still pink... any other ideas ? I've never dealt with this before, so it's tough to troubleshoot on my own..

Or an easier way is to change the the graphics asset in project setting -> graphics
