Why Moving to Portugal Exceeded My Expectations - A Deeper Dive Into The Cost Of Living

We took a deeper dive into the cost of living with Expats Portugal’s Jacqui Acevedo from the USA. Join us for a comprehensive analysis as we revisit our recent cost of living figures. Jacqui shares additional insights drawn from her day-to-day experiences, providing reflections that go beyond mere statistics and reveal why the numbers have exceeded her expectations.

Like many, before relocating, Jacqui was very familiar with the comparative cost of living figures in Portugal versus the USA and anticipated a lower monthly expenditure. However, her day-to-day experiences revealed nuances that go beyond the numbers, and she is therefore eager to share her knowledge and lead the discussion on this topic.

If you're contemplating a move or are already on your way to Portugal, get personal insights to aid your budgeting and inspiration for planning your new life in Portugal.

Yet another fun-filled evening discussing our favourite topic, Portugal!

Some notes on transportation;
Strikes on transportation are usually announced a week in advance and in the case of bus and rail, there is a minimum service level that is maintained. For the metro (subway), busses replace the trains. Strikes usually last only a day or two.
A monthly bus pass, which includes the metro, trains and ferries, is €40 for a month and €20 for seniors in the Lisbon metropolitan region. The free pass covers just trips within the city of Lisbon.
The CP app doesn't seem to work for regional trains, but it does work for Intercity and Alfa Pendular trains. You could also use long distance busses, such as Rede Expressos, which are almost as fast as the regional trains.
