Tips and Tricks for Double Sliding Barn Doors:
• If you are purchasing the barn door w/o the hardware make sure the hardware you purchase is sufficient for the weight of the doors you buy
• Our doors are heavy and a header board behind the railing is always needed for the extra support because the barn doors were an after thought and the door framing isn’t sufficient for hanging barn doors so pre plan or plan to add a header board
• Floor guides are a must to avoid some “cons” of barn sliders
• Know the actual framed in door opening or specify the measurements are rough opening and not framed before ordering the size door you want because it has to be larger than the opening
• Make sure your railing/floor guide has a stopper
• Installing properly is a necessity for frustration free door operation (following the instructions for railing installation is imperative for balance and angle for smooth action slow close/opening to avoid it slamming open because it has now way of slowing down. Think of it like the addition of slow close cabinet doors
• Know you are going to have a floor guide and make sure your builder knows because depending on what type of floor you will have to install the floor guide before or as part of installing the floor. Carpet is a big issue if not planned in advance. The floor guide should be installed first. Tile adds height to the floor and the doors need to be high enough above the floor to clear the guide.
• Take hardware size and clearance into consideration for wall clearance when opened or for by-pass doors

Awesome video!!! I need the right half of this for a barndominium project we are doing! My rough opening is 8'H x 9'W. I have some beautiful 25 year old heart redwood that has been stored and stacked and never used. I have 2x12's and 1x12 pieces that are 12 feet long. I'm brainstorming how I'll cut and assemble these doors.

Very nice. I was going to do something like that in our next house if I ever get to building it. They look great.

I usually don't like barn doors inside for privacy but this is beautiful and the perfect solution for this application

Are those contiguous rails or multiple pieces?

thanks so much for thtis video! this is exactly what I need to do for my garage. it is an old but sturdy building (so I don't want to replace it) that has 2 old open-out doors that don't clear the upward slope of the driveway, so they won't open all the way. There is not enough headroom in the building to mount a regular garage door or a roll up door. Short of re-grading the drivway, this would be the answer. to my problem.

Great video! I am struggling to understand where the floor guide is mounted for the front door? I was thinking it would need to be somewhere on the floor that could be a "tow catcher" but I don't see it exposed where someone may step on it when getting of the bunk. Again, thank you for the awesome description!!

This is an amazing build and a great explanation!!!
One question do you have the part numbers for the catch/stop that you used to have the first door catch the second door when opening, and then the second door catch the first door when closing? Thank you!

Wow this is great I was trying to figure out how to get my doors to all fit! What is the hardware you use to make it catch

What hardware did you use for the catch on the front door? The one mounted on the back that catches the edge of the back door when opening them.

I'm having trouble locating those double rails/double tracks that allow the doors to stack. DO you remember the brand name?
