We are a family of veterans, and we always say that friends don't let friends join the military.

Yea… I don’t think any veterans are recommending their children to be sacrificed on the altar of corporate profits anymore.

I’ve told my son there is no way he is serving even if a war breaks out. They use and abuse you then discard you afterwards. You get screwed by the system time and time again.

Some of that is because the military is becoming less accommodating of narcissism as more robots and AI are being developed that enable organizations to be more selective with manpower. We also seemed to be getting better at developing a science of how to effectively support one side of a war without outright fighting it for them and tying up our ability to respond to something else. America has maintained an ability to respond to China if they attacked Taiwan this whole time that we've been supporting Ukraine against Russia. One of the most important things the west is getting from this war is a refined playbook of how to cover more than one flank at the same time.

Lol I’m not “asking the question”. I am 100% concrete dead set against it.

I was not encouraged to join. I did it on my own. I would not encourage my child to do the same I would let them make that decision on their own.

As a veteran I agree with what he said.

It’s an ecosystem, where it’s mission first. They might be the best of ideas throughout its history but it’s a part of who we are. The decision should be left up to the individual to serve and do their part to the best of their ability, contributing to the evolution of this great nation

Not encourage but discourage. Why would we want them in Ukraine especially after learning our lessons and knowing why they would be there. I refuse.

Exactly! Both of my sons have dreams to be at the highest levels of the military or law enforcement of some kind. I want this for them but am also hesitant to push them towards that dream. Idk 🤷‍♀️ as a parent it’s a tough one! Rock 🪨-me 👋- hard place

My sons have dual nationality, and I wouldn’t like them to go in one or the other military. I see it like this you fight for your country, but where is your country if and when you need help?

We must do better. America has to be the better option. We need to design policy in a manner that alignment with our provides value.

So what do we do? Watching Afghanistan fall like that was indescribably depressing. I lost so many friends and my health from that fight. For apparently nothing..
