Ubuntu Budgie 21.04 | The Very Best Flavour Of Ubuntu

Ubuntu and all it's flavours have now entered the beta phase before the final releases arrives on the 22nd of April 2021. As far as new features on their main Ubuntu release there isn't heaps of new features to sink our teeth into. This doesn't appear to be the case for all of their other flavours though. My favourite out of all the Ubuntu flavours is Ubuntu Budgie which looks like it's been treated to quite a few new features and improvements in this release.

It's beautiful. Budgie has always been my desktop environment of choice. But I prefer it on Solus much more, coz it feels like home.

I've installed 12 distros over the last several days, and I swear, they are all exactly the same thing with different coats of paint. Mostly just GNOME or KDE with different, buggy DE extensions applied and different provided themes, icon sets, window decorations selected. It's a freaking farce.

Lol just tried it before watching this. Yeah Ubuntu Budgie is definitely the most inviting distro, and the most „Ubuntu“ like distro of them all really. I do think it should be the mainline for new users, it’s so nice and simple to use/slightly configure.

As a former Gnome user, I think I just found an replacement for Gnome... 🤔
But recently I switched to Sway (manjaro variant) so I'll stick first to it for a while... And if I don't like it, for sure will try budgie!

Budgie always seems like Gnome 3, but with some extension preinstalled and the overview and dash removed.

Some on commented that Budgie is the most "Ubuntu-like" Ubuntu flavor. And after watching this video, I think I agree. It looks closer to my original experience with Ubuntu (Hardy) than all the releases since Natty, when they first switched away from Gnome.

The current Gnome is fine and usable, but I think I'm going to start dailying Budgie. I also like the applets, lol. Thanks for the overview.

Plank is a bit simple compared to Latte Dock in KDE. No recently used files per application or other menu options.

Did I see that correctly during the installation that the annoying swap partition was not auto installed??? Huge brownie points if that’s the case. Currently using Manjaro KDE. If Ubuntu now offers to not auto install the Swap partition, I might go back to using Ubuntu Budgie 👍🏽

Thanks Tyler! Budgie is very nice. I love KDE but am curious to check this out. I have one question. When you switched themes to Mac Big Sur does the theme install Kpple Menu also? I really like having the Dock at the bottom and the Apple-like menu on the top menu bar. Excellent review by the way! Aloha!

I read this morning that Ubuntu has pulled this update to fix a problem installing it on older UEFI computers where it can hose the system boot.
