Here is my final decision on the most controversial question in British Tea. Milk first or last when making a British Cuppa?

What exactly does it mean 'milk first'? Putting cold milk in a cup, adding boiling water and tea leaves? Or just putting milk first and adding the already extracted tea?

Lactose (milk sugar) becomes soluble at around 60°c and will make milk taste sweeter. Heat also allows for the formation of volatile compounds, which will impart "buttery" or "creamy" flavors.

I’m not surprised by the result, I’ve always found the same thing, but have no explanation. In practice it can be more complicated – an advantage of adding milk second is that you have more control over the strength/milkiness of the resulting combination – but all else being equal I find milk first just has a nicer taste and consistency.

Assume that the milk would be put in hot otherwise the tea would not brew as well?

Next test if using powdered milk is better or liquid milk... i add coconut milk powder to my drinks cause it last for longer than a carton of plant milk ... which would be yummier ? 0u0

There are alot of different terpenes and other compounds that aren't water soluble. Milk on the other hand has fats that can, when combined with heat and a lil stirring, help with extraction. Milk is an emulsion so the fat is dispersed quiet good.
The problem: A liquid can only hold so much of soluble material...so the extraction of Water soluble substances should be less?!
I got an Idea:
Try brewing with different Milk (fat content 1%-4% and tell us if it makes a difference.
Like this:
1)Brewed 1% fat Milk
2)Brewed 2% fat Milk
3)Brewed 3% fat Milk
4)Brewed 4% fat Milk

You can also: Test "Vegan Options" wich would make a good test and help you vegan community.
Test just to see the differences in flavour according to more lipophillicity...
I think this would be very interesting.

For those who use teabags (shock horror!) would this still work if adding milk with the bag before brewing or does the tea have to be brewed separately without milk first?

You know what's funny, I have always put my milk first, even when I'm brewing coffee. Hmm, its really cool to know there is a difference.
