Late Spring 1985 .... when this riddim came out. Every record shop you walked into. That baseline was blasting.
At first (when ONLY the Wayne Smith song was released), nobody could DJ on the riddim in the Dancehall. The speed and the bounce of it was so different than anything else at the time. It wasn't until TONTO IRIE's cut came out and then the album with JOHN WAYNE's cut ('CALL THE POLICE), that people heard what patterns and styles would work on it.
SUPERB STUFF.
One - or more - Engineers in JAPAN, changed the course of JAMAICAN MUSIC forever.

Okuda Hiroko, a Japanese engineer, created and blasted this rythm.
Who could even imagine that the universal rythm of reggae, was developed on the other side of the world.

One of the greatest reggae riddims of all time. Changed reggae forever. I never forget it. January 1985. David Rodigan flashed this riddim for the first time on his show. February 1985. Rodigan v Barry G. Both flinging *Sleng Teng* after *Sleng Teng.* The riddim had gone nuclear.

Honestly, the bassline is serious. I can understand why it's one of the greatest riddims to date. Seriously wicked tune. Undefeated!

It’s crazy to think a 19 year old kid was responsible for this discovery

I hope you don't mind. This is totally getting sampled and dropped in the middle of a live set!

love how you played thesecond riddim chord out of key

He does a key shift around 33sec...then plays the wrong chord. He does Gb/D....whereas it should be Gb/E...one full step down. He gets it right for the other chords, but for some reason doesn't get the companion chords to Gb correct.
