She has a way of telling stories that makes you want to listen and forgot about everything else for a little while. 💜

Really, what is it with Für Elise? When I wanted to quit my lessons, my (Korean) mother demanded that I memorize that song (and Bach's Largo). And just like you, it sticks with me even now. 😂

I wish I had the time to learn an instrument as a kid. I'm from Congo and we had just immigrated to Sweden. My mom was learning Swedish, taking nursing classes and working 8+ hours and without my dad around she had a lot on her plate. 10 year old me was her little helper. Took care of my younger siblings, cooked, cleaned, became their mom and it meant I never really got to pursue any of my interests because I had to put my family first. I really lost myself in being 'helpful' to my family and never doing anything for myself. One day I woke up and I was 20 and my siblings didn't need me anymore and I shockingly realised that I had no interests, no dumb teenage memories I could look back fondly on, barely had any friends and I felt so useless and unwanted. I didn't know who I was without being needed and it's really tough to try piecing yourself together after that. I bought an electric guitar though. It's been sitting in my room for the past year because between university and work I don't really have time to learn to play but just having it makes me very happy.

“Lollipop notes”
I thought I was such a creative child, but I would never have come up with that.

I started lessons when I was 8. I had to beg my parents for two years to pay for piano lessons. My mom was sure I would lose interest quickly. Ten years later I was a piano wiz. That song was one of my favorites, and still like you, one of the few songs I can still play.

I remember my dad loved music and he would always tell me how he would want me to play something or sing for him. He took me to classes which were almost an hour away more than 2 times a week, and always stayed inside the car with no food and often in the freezing cold. I remember he would always used to ask me to play for him and how his face would light up with joy when I got over my stage fright and preformed, even if it was the smallest thing. Thinking back I never really appreciated how he did all this despite how tired he must have been when he did all those things for me and how seeing me do something he loved made him feel. I don't know why I wrote this really but looking at this video really made me think of this

I don’t really understand the concept of a Butter Board, so I just switched the board for a slice of bread and this recipe was great!

I just read the joy luck club ❤ and I have to say anything that involves relationships and growing pains brings a smile to my face.

I kicked and screamed when I pushed to play piano because I just wanted to be like my sister when she refused. Now That I am old those habits over and so happy I gained more individuality and visibility in pursuing what I want even if by myself.

I took piano lessons and studied piano for 18 years. I love classical. Music and story went well together. I thought that was vegan cream cheese with the pumpkin. That I think would be yum.

I started self teaching piano when I was 11 (I am no where close to a professional) so that I could learn songs to sing along with. But Für Elise is the first song I ever taught myself.
It will always stick with me

As children we can be selfish, not doing things to make out parents happy. But when they are gone we regret it. I bet she wished she played for her father. I'm sure it would've bring him much joy and pride. Growing up I couldn't say no to my parents out of love and the deep respect I have for them. No was never an option
