Plan S is an initiative for Open Access publishing which is supported by COAlition S, a group of mostly European research funders and research organisations. Plan S requires that, from January 1st, 2021 onwards, publications funded by COAlition S members must be made Open Access immediately upon publication.

Plan S applies to all Trinity researchers in receipt of research grants from Science Foundation Ireland, Wellcome Trust, World Health Organisation, Gates Foundation, UKRI and the European Commission among others. It is essential that Trinity’s researchers and postgraduate students are fully compliant with Plan S provisions. The Library in conjunction with the Associate Dean of Research is organising an awareness campaign which was kick-started with a College-wide webinar on Thursday, 11th February next at 1pm.Chaired by the Librarian and College Archivist, Helen Shenton, a presentation was given on Plan S compliance by Programme Manager, Research Informatics, Niamh Brennan followed by a Q&A. The aim is to provide our researchers with the knowledge and skills needed to comply and avoid penalties from Plan S funders.
