On today's What America's Thinking, a new Hill/HarrisX poll finds 57% of registered voters believe the US political system works for insiders with money and power. Robert Griffin, Research Director of the Democracy Fund Voter Study Group, and Felicia Wong, President & CEO of the Roosevelt Institute, join Hill TV to talk about public opinion on this issue. This survey was conducted online within the United States from March 22-23, 2020 among 1,002 registered voters by HarrisX. The sampling margin of error of this poll is plus or minus 3.1 percentage points. The results reflect a nationally representative sample of registered voters. Results were weighted for age within gender, region, race/ethnicity, income, political party, and education where necessary to align them with their actual proportions in the population.

The new tax system is a nightmare for the poor and working class. Very unfair. The job market is a joke and not properly recorded. The regulation industry is rigged. It’s all a nightmare.

I like that last part. "The American dream happens when you sleep." 👍

anyone who reads Piketty's Capital will know for sure the US political system has been for the benefit of insiders for the last 40 years, basically. People can argue about anything but the evidence is completely compelling. We live in an oligarchy.

Our system has been broken for a long time. It is just a lot more obvious now. It needs to be rebuilt for sure with the people at the top of that pyramid. That’s probably the best way to go. That and having people with actual skills run things instead of these Con men and women. Actions speak louder than words always. So people shouldn’t be in positions of power based off only there words and sales skills lol.

When lobbying is a multi-billion industry then you can't come to any other conclusion that the political system can be bought. If the system can be bought then the system can never work for you.

"Does the US political system work for you?"

I dunno. Did the French political system work for people in 1789? 🤔

We do not have an "income inequality" problem in this country. We have a "work ethic" inequality problem in this country. Those people that are "unwilling to work" should be the LAST ones demanding anything - from either the government or their fellow citizens. The "system" absolutely works, but you have to be willing to participate in it.

I'll go for cancelling student loan debt if they will also cancel my car loan. Those students are adults and agreed to a contractual arrangement. They should pay every penny and if they do, they will be much stronger people. Bail outs are for crooks.

Of course it doesn't! The wholly corrupted US political system ONLY works for elites. I define elites as people who are economically secure and tend to live in an insulated bubble with only others like them. This doesn't only include "wealthy" corporate elites. It also includes many in the upper middle class professional/managerial group who aren't necessarily wealthy, but since they're doing OK economically they aren't concerned about the suffering and exploitation of poor and working class people and they vote accordingly (for establishment status quo protectors).

So if we all understand this. Can we all agree to a revolution and overthrowing of a corrupt system after this crisis ends?!
