My orthodontist put permanent retainers on top and bottom, and I also have to wear the removable ones at night.

Downsides of plastic retainers: they break ridiculously easy (have gone through 3 in last 2 years) and you have to wash/rinse them every single time before and after wearing them or they smell awful.

Yup. I just had my braces removed a few days ago and my ortho installed fiber fixed retainer on both my lower and upper teeth, i am also getting my clear removable retainers (both upper and lower) in a week lol

I just completed my invisalign after almost two years last week. They fitted a metal brace behind top and bottom and i have a brace for the top. I insisted on getting vivera plastic retainers for both top and bottom because what you said in this video happened to me after my metal braces at 18.

My question is: is it better to have both metal and plastic retainers together? Or just stick to the plastic retainers alone? They are gonna mold the viveras according to my teeth with the metal retainers so what happens if they shift and i use the plastic to stop the teeth from moving until the metal is fixed? 😭

Sorry for all my questions i just invested so much for my teeth to be straight now that I just dont wanna mess anything up.

I hate the plastic retainers. I have facial pain, headaches and I find myself grinding my teeth. My gums gets sore around the retainer line.

My teeth couldn’t handle retainers they moved the first 30 mins without it when I would eat so I had to have permanent ones

After wearing braces for 2 years, the doctor gave me removable retainers to wear for another year. Now, it's been more than 12 years since wearing any type of retainers and my teeth looks perfectly fine.😅😅

I’ve had my permanent retainer for 16 years, I floss regularly, and brush properly and my teeth are still great front to back. I might have been lucky to not break it so far touch wood

I had mine for 35 years and it just broke tonight, popped right out of my mouth when I was flossing.

I am getting two retainers, a permanent one and temporary one . I am supposed to wear both of them together

My orthodontist straight up put one in my mouth without telling me. I went to tye dentist only to get my braces removed, and when i was done, i felt something behind my teeth with my toung. When I asked what it was, they just casually told me it was my new permanent retainer as if it wasn't my first time hearing about it. Of course i was charged for it even though i never asked for it or was even informed i was getting it. I've had it on for more than 5 years, and i still never got used to the feeling of my toung being scraped every time i close my mouth. These devices are a scam.

I would’ve gotten so mad… but tbh could they mold a normal retainer with the new misalignment, I mean, , , , it’s just one tooth

Can i wear hawley retainer at the Bottom and clear plastic trainers for upper teeth??

My orthodontist gave me both perm and plastic retainers... He advised me to wear the plastic retainer before sleeping.

This is common place with bonded retainers. However, that tooth could have shifted back faster with clear overlay retainers. 10 years of retention is a long time for that glue. If the patient had been educated on maintenance or replacement of the bonded lingual retainer this could have been avoided. Clear overlays aren’t the only solution.
