To improve my art I try use as many media as I can, I'm to trying to "specialize" only in one media: I use watercolor, colored pencils, ink, graphite, gouache etc..

My realistic drawing improved dramatically when I started tracing photos and comparing them to freehand drawing of the same photos.

"In drawing, if you lose your motivation you'd never finish it"

That's why if you try to draw anything you're not familiar it. Imagine it, and take action. Don't compare your work to other people. Just imagine you're alone and nobody is there.

i remember learning about "conscious practice" years ago, where you carefully pay attention to what you are practicing and the intent behind it, and it changed how much my art has progressed. great video <3

I'm a believer in practice makes perfect but... That's also includes experimenting a lot, and trying out different things, not sticking to something if it doesn't work, you need to learn to know what is wrong with a drawing, either through critique or through trial and error. Some people learn better by practicing a lot, others just go off and throw caution (paint) to the wind and eventually end up with something they like 😀

Kirsty you sure are a life saver! Lately I've been getting really down thinking about my drawings being terrible and I don't know what to do to actually get progressive results... Even art pieces that I used to be really Happy with 2 to 3 months ago don't shine anymore; I guess this was a reality check for me that instead of sitting here and thinking I'm not good enough it's best to get to a paper and actually practice... You've always inspired me! Stay Safe Everyone!!

Yes! It’s so important to make sure to critique your art and examine specific areas you’d like to improve! It also keeps you motivated, like if I’m not please with how a maple tree turns out in my landscape - I’ll draw several landscapes with lots of different types of maple leaves/maple trees until I see an improvement!

I never realized this until watching this video of yours, but whenever I critiqued my art, it automatically improved. Thank you for pointing this out for me, I myself, would've never noticed this. BTW You are an amazing inspiration, and I always find your videos to be helpful!

This is the fundamental for piano. I've heard it from my piano teacher, from my dance teacher (she even gave the same quote), and now you. This helps for everything in life, a very good skill to have.
