The Camino is a long walk… it’s the first tentative step… a backpack and a pair of shoes… a top bunk and a bottom bunk… a flat path that stretches to the horizon… a cerveza at the end of the day… second breakfast… soulmates you’ve only known for five minutes… it’s a cathedral with towers that shine like beacons.

I was supposed to hike the camino in 2020 with a priest friend of mine. 2 weeks after I bought the plane ticket, Covid shut down the whole world and our plans were cancelled. It felt like our dream died and we moved on with our lives, but just this last week we've decided to start planning our hike for 2024. A year ago (the day after Labour Day in Canada), I left home to walk the Camino Frances. When I finished that incredible journey 40 days after I left SJPdP, I cried a lot ... for months: For what I'd been through, how grateful I was, how hard it had been, how sorry I was it was over, the awesome people who made that journey all that it could have possibly been, and so much more. When people asked me about, I'd start to try to tell them something and inevitably break down in tears: There were simply no words to possibly describe it. But you found them! And I cried when reading them. Great piece of work, Nadine!
