What is "LiFi"?

Prof. Harald Haas coined the term "LiFi" at his TED Global talk to describe the high speed, bidirectional, networked and mobile wireless communication of data using light.

This is what he envisioned.....

My guess is that Capitalists will do everything in their power to make this exclusive, and expensive, or to make it illegal so it won't be competitive with current technology.

What are any negative health side effects from LiFi ? And if so, how would you know the long term effects on humans/animals since it’s so new to the market?

THe only thing is the internet is so fast already with fiber etc... i wonder if there would be a real benefit im shure the vidoes would be more alive and have way better streaming qualities but to get basic information the speed we have now is pretty fast im wondering what would this bring to a person on wifi with good speed at this time.

I'm confused. So it can deliver speeds of up to 1GB but it's 100 times faster than wifi even though the maximum speed of 802.11ac is 1.3Gbps? I clearly have some facts wrong, could somebody care to elaborate for me please.

Nice idea, What we need is routers at 10w 50w, and 100w. Long distance WiFi networking, that an omni-directional for 3-4 miles.

That would be better to have a adapter with LAN port output, or LiFi to Wifi AP. Something like a homeplug.

WARNING Dr Haas... Radio Shack had circuits, in the 1990s, in their electronics manuals using LEDS to send signals.

This is technically fiber, but through the air.

So if I'm in bed at night and want to use my phone, do I leave the light on all the time ?

LiFi is so superior to WiFi, it is definitely the future of networking, & full wireless w/no microwaves!
