The new Tesla Model 3 is here! Details on electric 3 Series rival

Few cars have been met with more anticipation than the Tesla Model 3.

The Model 3 will go head-to-head with the established big sellers in the compact executive car class the release date is set for the end of 2017 with a starting price of $35,000 (£24,400) in the US. It will count cars like BMW’s 3 Series, Audi’s A4 and the Mercedes C-Class as rivals but that low price for a fully electric car will set alarm bells ringing at the German firms and across the industry.

Looks are subjective, but everyone one needs to stop and appreciate how much technology this car is packing for 35k! For the price of a fully loaded Accord V6 or a base 3 Series, you are getting a car of the future.

The overall look is stunning, my one complaint is the front. It looks like it's missing something where the grill should be. Maybe moving the Tesla badge down further would do the trick.

I love the idea but I really struggle with the front end but eh design is subjective

I think the front end is throwing people off. That clipped nose it has looks weird. A lot of people are arguing it needs a grill. They also could have smoothed it out. And considering that there are next to no cars on the market with a smooth face like that (ICE's require radiators thus the grill openings). I think this face though is an efficiency play. As it reduces drag that the grill would create. So yeah it might look better, but i'd much rather enjoy the enhanced range. (ie. less drag = more range).

Well this is gonna be the next step, I certainly like it much better than the recent SUV, even that it has funky doors. And to those who think it is ugly I do not agree - This is by normal car proportions, by wheel stance and overall dynamics not exactly an ugly car, it is not goofy, radically breaking the norm for exterior proportions or otherwise try to look like so many weird takes on the hybrid and EV segment - It might not be to everybody´s taste and I´m not big on that C pillar - but at least it is a consistent cue over the range and does not try to mimic a 3 Series like a few other makers have done recently. Now I am a BMW fan and yes I like the 3 series better and there is also other cars in this segment that i do like a lot - but for an All Electric car with 250 mile range and a 6 sec sprint - this is by far one of the most interesting EV´s to be offered yet.

35grand is okay I want one. But I'll wait till it is on the market I am sure other car maker doesn't stand still there are surely more options available by other car maker by the time the model 3 is released.

I do see business fleets being replaced with these since they will save loads of money but they will need a bunch of 3 series or something for when people need to travel for their work

3 series is a big money waster, not offering the same Autopilot capabilities such as auto lane change from the Tesla Model 3 that it competes with.

It's still nothing more than a city runabout. They are never going to be anything more than a novelty, for people with more money than sense, until they ditch the batteries for something with greater energy density like a Hydrogen fuel cell. And on the subjective front, wow the design is uninspired.

I'm not a fan of Tesla and do not like that impression of grill. Either have a grill or no trace of one at all.

That said, the Model 3 is going to make some serious waves.
