I also caught the first lie made to protect Ellie; it was from her mother to Marlene, when she told her that she already cut the umbilical chord before she was bitten, when we saw it was definitely after she was bitten (hence the immunity). So it all ties in with the whole theme of, what lengths parents will go to, to protect their child.

The episode really made it feel like it was Marlene’s impatience that led Joel to killing them all. If she’d let them talk and let Ellie understand what they wanted to do Ellie may have been able to talk Joel into letting it happen, but by Rushing Ellie straight into surgery as soon as she was there, before Joel was even awake, Joel had to resort to drastic measures to not lose his new daughter without even getting a goodbye.

The way they handled Joel killed his way through the hospital was beautiful loved the More tragic vibes with the muted audio with the music playing over it.

I honestly still can't hate Joel for doing what he did. Marlene literally admitted Ellie wasn't even told nor was she given an actual choice. And my god The relief you could see Joel felt from actually being able to save his new daughter was just wow.

I'm so sad the season is over. When Joel killed Marlene, you could really see that he is more than Ellie's protector, he wants to be her father.

Im surprised only one person has mentioned the striking resemblance between Anna and Ellie. I didn’t know who Ashley was so i was thinking, wow they actually casted someone who looked just like Bella to play her mother. But now i realized they probably casted Bella because she looks exactly like Ashley.

Bella's acting in the scene leading up to the "okay" was fantastic, the whole time you can tell she's conflicted, and working up the courage to actually make Joel swear to her about what happened.

I don’t think Marlene knew or suspected Ellie was immune and planned to use her for creating a cure for 14 years. Anne told her she cut her off before she was bitten. Ellie didn’t have any signs of cordyceps in her and i don’t think they had time to use MRI on her brain or something. I think they all learned Ellie was immune only after the incident with Riley, and only then they started making plans for her, so, not too long before the events in the series/game.

the giraffe scene was honestly so beautiful! it just shows how some treasures from before the apocalypse managed to live on, like this species left from a zoo just doing its thing in peace in a peaceless world

The fact that there is so much debate over Joel's decision, for me, is a testament to how brilliant this show is.

The giraffe scene was prefect, one of my favorite moments in the game done justice .

Also it was so jarring hearing Ellie's voice grunts, and seeing Ashley. Aside from the whole " Ellie birthing ellie" notion, I didn't realize how much Ashley, and Bella look alike. They could be mother / daughter in real life.


Overall so happy with this adaptation I can't wait for season 2.

I like how they set up the way he was able to just mow through the fireflies. Marlene ask Joel how’d he do it. As in how did he protect Ellie this whole time half way across the country. Then she said she lost 5 guys just tryna protect her. So you could see Joel was just different. And he says it was all Ellie. Which is true because that’s what keeps him fighting.

Loved this finale and Pedro Pascal's acting was fantastic throughout. I can understand why people would have a problem with the lack of infected/action, but I think this show has done a great job balancing action, drama and worldbuilding. The wait for this and HOTD Season 2 is going to be agonizing because I can't wait for both.

*It's amazing how this show had Joel and Ellie go, from people who didn't like and/or trust each other, to him calling her 'baby girl' and embracing her like a father. It was so beautiful juxtaposed with the apocalyptic events that went on around them. I've never felt so much love for this kind of genre that I do now. Every episode other than 4 had me in tears at some point. It blew my mind.*

*P.S: Not saying Joel hasn't done bad things in his life, however, ask any father whether he would allow his beloved daughter to be killed.*

Watching that again, it felt like Joel was in a haze as he moved. Almost wasn’t himself and let his heart guide him. You can see the clarity come back after he confronts the surgeon. Also 7:50 I like how they put the camper from the game into this scene.

Loved Ellie from the game being Ellies mother, the voice stood out a mile.
