tip:

hold the end of the new mag up against the bottom-outside of the pistol with your thumb in line on the side if the mag and index in the same place on the other side.

hold your three other fingers out around roughly where the magwell is, readu to catch the other magazine.

finally, drop the magazine and let gravity do the work. as soon as you feel the mag drop, push your thumb up against the side of the gun with the mag still against it.

Don't forget to forward assist that slide, it's something you would do more with airsoft since the spring is lighter.

That tactical reload (the magazine retention reload) looks a lot like how they used to teach it at Gunsite Academy back when Jeff Cooper still ran the show there in the 80s. Retro in a way but still a relevant skill.

Also those reloads were very smooth for not having a magwell (think of a funnel) on the gun.

Also, have you been practicing drawing the 1911 from a holster? Like the Browning Hi Power the 1911 requires a muscle memory like development of deactivating the safety lever on the draw. I've been a real steel 1911 shooter near the entirety of my adult life (i also had 1911 airsoft pistols as a teen as well), so its second nature for me to hit the safety lever but if you've been shooting lots of striker fired (glocks etc) and DA/SA hammer fired (Beretta 92) pistols it can be easy to forget in the heat of the moment. Repetition can fix that.
