Rohingya Waiting to Cross Myanmar Border to Bangladesh Attacked in Rakhine

Drones attacked Rohingya fleeing Myanmar on August 5. The shelling killed dozens of people waiting to cross the Myanmar border to Bangladesh in Rakhine state's Maungdaw. The witnesses claim that the deceased included women and children. Aid organisation Medecins Sans Frontieres said that it treated 39 people with gunshot and mortar shell injuries. Bangladesh media also reported boat carrying Rohingya capsized in the Naf River that separates Bangladesh and Myanmar. The attack, which came amidst weeks of fighting between junta troops and rebels, marks the single deadliest assault on civilians in Rakhine state. Armed rebel groups and Myanmar military rulers blame each other for the attack.
