This was one of my Father's favorite novels. He was translating this book into our native language 'Sinhala' before he passed away. He had finished almost 90% of the manuscript. Someday, if I could, I would complete his work. I get why he admired this book so much. It speaks about isolation and loneliness which is not a strange feeling for both of us.

I read this book when I was 13. Although I missed quite a bit, I came away with a deep melancholy emotion that has stayed with me all my 66 years. I read
It again when I was in my 40’s. I truly love this book and have found no other that has moved or touched my soul. I just had eye surgery and can now see again, and have promised to read it at least one more time. Thank you for your review🍒

you forgot to mention the loneliness within every charachter. Its the main themes of this novel. There is people that need to live alone becouse society doesnt accept them. That kind of people need to fight for their loneliness and depression or they will screwed.

Richard Wright also wrote Native Son which is a very intense and gruesome novel about society-made monsters. Highly recommend!

I can't believe she was only 22! It's hard to imagine being able to write with a feel of such experience and wisdom at that age. This was probably book of the year for me. I feel like it's one of those titles that many readers have on their tbr, but perhaps don't realise just how good it will be- particularly outside of the US as I am

I havnt read the book but saw the film when it was first released all those years ago - the film had a profound affect on me .I just rewatched the film and didnt really remember any of it so it was like seeing it for the first .It affected me in the same way as before .I am shocked that the original author was only 22yrs old - such amazing insight on her part - I loved your review of the book Thank You
